The silky, slightly glossy Colorado wrapper of the H 2000 variety looks inviting and is beautifully crafted. The binder comes from Ecuador. The filler contains tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Peru. This fine cigar is manufactured in Costa Rica. According to the manufacturer, the blend was created by former producer Don Luis Santana Llamas from the H. Upmann cigar factory in Cuba – interesting! The Il Padrino Omerta has a subtle aroma of mint and earth. The dry draw reveals surprisingly tart, bitter notes accompanied by dried fruit. The cigar is extremely firm and evenly rolled. After successful toasting and lighting, the Toro opens with very bitter, grassy notes accompanied by a hint of pepper. The bitterness subsides slightly to make way for a subtle, fruity sweetness that is initially reminiscent of apricot. The fruity sweetness gains in intensity and blends with the bitter notes. The smoke becomes distinctly dry and actually evokes the flavour of bitter lemon. Light woody aromas round off this exceptional first third. Meanwhile, with optimal draw resistance, the cigar produces large quantities of rich, slightly creamy smoke. Fruity sweetness and Bitter Lemon consistently remain the core elements of the smoke throughout the second third. At times, the dry bitterness subsides slightly, allowing the pleasant fruity sweetness more room to unfold. The woody notes gain a little in intensity. The pepper is now almost negligible. A hint of leather and earth make their way into the composition. A gentle coffee aroma also finds its place on the flavour wheel. The final third feels ‘smoother’, as the bitter note softens and blends harmoniously with the fruity sweetness and the other flavours to create a very palatable blend. In fact, the bitterness subsides significantly towards the end of the cigar. Earthy notes, and leather in particular, gain in intensity. A pleasant blend of pepper, accompanied by a light, malty spiciness, ultimately rounds off this wonderful smoking experience. The Il Padrino Omerta is a full-bodied, distinctive cigar that tastes simply excellent throughout its burn time of around 75 minutes. The Toro can be described as rather strong and satisfying. I already really liked the Robusto Gordo from this range. The Omerta is yet another class above and has what it takes to become a permanent fixture in my humidor. From a technical point of view, too, the cigar gives absolutely no cause for complaint. The burn is completely even and straight as a die. The mouse-grey ash cone is clean, stable and easy to manage at all times. An excellent cigar, featuring a unique, full-bodied and intense blend that is likely to appeal to more experienced connoisseurs. I highly recommend it. It also offers excellent value for money and is more than fair. A great cigar!
